1 Marla ≈ 272.25 sq ft, so a 5 Marla home is roughly 1,361 sq ft of plot. The tool starts with illustrative paintable areas for a single-storey house — fine-tune every surface below, or tell us your exact measurements for a closer estimate.

2. Areas, coats and assumptions

Interior walls

Bedrooms, living, dining, halls and staircase walls

Ceilings

Room, hall and staircase ceilings

Exterior walls

Front elevation, side, rear and boundary walls

Wood & metal (enamel)

Doors, windows, grills, railings and gates

Coverage and rate are editable planning assumptions. Coverage is always expressed in square feet per litre per coat, so metre measurements are converted automatically.

3. Primer & wall preparationPrimer and putty quantities are estimated from the interior and exterior wall area only. Ceilings and enamel surfaces are excluded. Whether a surface needs primer, putty or a sealer depends on its condition and the paint system.
4. Painter labour (optional)Labour is a separate charge from paint material and is estimated on your total paintable area. Rates vary by city, surface and scope. Triangle Paints can also arrange painting labour for your project — contact us for availability and a labour quote.

A double-storey house has considerably more wall and ceiling area than the same size single-storey house, so it needs more paint. Select Double-storey in the calculator, or enter your measured areas, for your layout. Every figure here is a planning illustration, not a quotation.

How the estimate is built

From plot size to paint cost.

Start with paintable area, not plot size

Marla measures land, not the surface you paint. For each rectangular room use gross wall area = 2 × (length + width) × height, then deduct doors and windows (width × height × quantity). Add length × width for each ceiling, and measure the exterior front, side, rear and boundary walls separately. The calculator keeps interior walls, ceilings, exterior walls and enamel surfaces apart because they usually use different products.

How much paint for one room

Turn area into litres, then into cost

Multiply the paintable area by the number of finish coats, then divide by the product's coverage in square feet per litre per coat to get litres. Multiply litres by the price per litre for the material cost, then add primer, putty and enamel. Every coverage rate and price in the calculator is editable, so you can swap the planning assumptions for your chosen product and current rate.

5 Marla paint quantity guide

Budget for primer, putty, enamel and labour

Primer and putty depend on the wall condition, enamel covers doors, windows, grills and railings, and painter labour is quoted separately from paint material per square foot of paintable area. The calculator adds an optional primer, putty and labour estimate so the project total is closer to what you will actually pay.

Questions answered

Paint quantity, cost and labour: common questions

How much paint is required for a 5 Marla house in Pakistan?

For a single-storey 5 Marla house the planner assumes about 2,800 sq ft of interior walls, 1,000 sq ft of ceilings and 900 sq ft of exterior walls. At two coats that is roughly 81 litres of wall, ceiling and exterior paint, plus a separate primer (about 28 litres) and enamel for doors and windows. The real figure depends on your covered area, wall height, openings, surface condition and the paint you choose, so enter your own measurements in the calculator above.

How much paint is needed for a 7 Marla house?

The 7 Marla planning example uses about 3,920 sq ft of interior walls, 1,400 sq ft of ceilings and 1,260 sq ft of exterior walls. At two coats that is roughly 114 litres of paint, with about 40 litres of primer. Select the 7 Marla preset in the calculator and adjust the areas, coats or coverage to match your actual house.

How much paint is needed for an 8 Marla house?

Single-storey 8 Marla planning areas are about 4,480 sq ft of interior walls, 1,600 sq ft of ceilings and 1,440 sq ft of exterior walls. Two coats come to roughly 130 litres of paint and about 46 litres of primer. Choose Custom size in the calculator, enter 8 Marla and fine-tune each surface for a closer figure.

How much paint is needed for a 10 Marla house?

A single-storey 10 Marla house is planned at roughly 5,600 sq ft of interior walls, 2,000 sq ft of ceilings and 1,800 sq ft of exterior walls — about 163 litres of paint at two coats and about 57 litres of primer. A double-storey 10 Marla house has much more wall and ceiling area, so expect a significantly higher quantity; switch the structure toggle to Double-storey in the calculator.

How much paint is needed for a 12 Marla house?

The 12 Marla example assumes about 6,720 sq ft of interior walls, 2,400 sq ft of ceilings and 2,160 sq ft of exterior walls. At two coats that is roughly 195 litres of paint and about 68 litres of primer. Measure your own rooms and deduct large openings for a more accurate estimate.

How much paint is needed for a 20 Marla house?

For a single-storey 20 Marla house the planner assumes about 11,200 sq ft of interior walls, 4,000 sq ft of ceilings and 3,600 sq ft of exterior walls, which is roughly 325 litres of paint at two coats and about 114 litres of primer. Larger or double-storey homes can need considerably more, so use your own areas where possible.

How much interior paint do I need?

Interior painting covers bedroom, living, dining, hall and staircase walls plus ceilings. For the single-storey 5 Marla example that is about 3,800 sq ft of walls and ceilings, roughly 63 litres at two coats at the default 120 sq ft per litre per coat. Calculate each room with 2 × (length + width) × height, add length × width for the ceiling, deduct doors and windows, then confirm the coverage of your chosen emulsion.

How much exterior paint is needed for the outside walls?

Exterior paint is measured from the exposed front, side and rear walls, plus boundary walls if you are painting them. The 5 Marla planning example uses about 900 sq ft of exterior wall, roughly 18 litres at two coats at an assumed 100 sq ft per litre per coat. Measure width × height for each wall, deduct openings and use the coverage of the exterior product you choose.

How much paint is needed for ceilings?

A ceiling needs length × width for each room, then the same coats and coverage calculation as the walls. The 5 Marla example has about 1,000 sq ft of ceiling, around 17 litres at two coats. Calculate ceilings separately if you are using a different colour or product from the walls.

How much enamel paint is needed for doors, windows and grills?

Doors, windows, grills, railings and gates use enamel rather than wall emulsion and are estimated separately. As a planning rule the calculator allows about 50 sq ft of enamel surface per Marla, so roughly 250 sq ft for a 5 Marla house. Measure the actual items and ask Triangle Paints to confirm the undercoat and enamel system.

How do I calculate the cost of painting a house in Pakistan?

Calculate the paintable area (interior walls + ceilings + exterior walls), multiply by the number of coats, then divide by the paint's coverage in square feet per litre per coat to get litres. Multiply litres by the price per litre for the material cost, then add primer, putty and enamel, and finally add painter labour. The calculator above does this with editable coverage and price assumptions and shows a material total, a rough labour total and your approximate saving with Triangle Paints.

What is the painter labour cost for painting a house in Pakistan?

Painter labour is a separate charge from paint material and is normally quoted per square foot of paintable area. Rates vary with city, surface, height, surface condition and scope, so the calculator starts from an editable Rs 20 per sq ft planning rate that you can change to match quotes in your area. Triangle Paints can also arrange painting labour — contact us for availability and a labour quote.

How many coats of paint should I apply?

Two finish coats is the usual choice for interior and exterior repainting and is the calculator default. New plaster, a strong colour change or a damaged surface may need a primer plus two or three coats. Always follow the product's application instructions and confirm the right system for your walls.

Does a double-storey house need more paint than a single-storey house?

Generally yes. A double-storey house on the same plot has more interior wall and ceiling area, and often more exterior wall area, so it needs more paint — but not exactly double. Use the Single-storey / Double-storey toggle in the calculator, or enter your own measured areas, to see the difference for your layout.

How much primer and wall putty do I need?

Primer and putty depend on the wall condition and the paint system. The calculator estimates primer from the interior and exterior wall area using an editable coverage (default 130 sq ft per litre for one coat) and estimates putty from the same wall area. New or porous plaster usually needs a primer, while putty is used to fill and smooth minor imperfections. Confirm whether your walls need putty, sealer or primer before buying.

How do I calculate paint quantity for one room?

Gross wall area = 2 × (length + width) × height. Deduct openings (width × height × quantity) to get the net paintable area, add length × width if you are painting the ceiling, multiply by the number of coats, then divide by the product's coverage in square feet per litre per coat. For example, a 12 ft × 10 ft room with a 10 ft height has 440 sq ft gross, 380 sq ft net after a door and a window, and 760 sq ft over two coats.

Is the paint calculator accurate, and is it a quotation?

It is a planning estimate, not a quotation. It converts your measurements into paintable area, coat area, rough litres and an indicative cost using editable coverage rates and prices, so the result changes with the assumptions you enter. Actual consumption depends on the product, surface porosity, colour change, application method and wastage. Send your result to Triangle Paints on WhatsApp and our team will confirm the exact quantity and best latest rates.
